1,000 Bavarians Protest Sweeping PAG Police Powers

November 13, 2022, Munich, Bavaria, Germany: Demonstrators against the Bavarian PAG laws being used againsr the Letzte Generation climate protesters hold an antifascist action flag at the entrance to the Stadelheim jail. Some four years after the massive protests against the Polizeiaufgabengesetz (Police Assignment Laws) that gave police sweeping powers to detain people without charges and before crimes leer más were committed, the controversial law has been brought into focus again in the wake of the Letzte Generation (Last Generation) climate protests where the activists glue themselves to roadways and works of art. Critics are stating that the police using PAG here, as well as calls to increase penalties and the CSU's Dobrindt likening the group to the RAF terrorist cell, amount to the suspension of democracy in Germany and power grabs.. Critics further allege that the PAG laws have been used asymmetrically and not against right-wing extremists, such as Luis T, who allegedly attempted to attack Health Minister Holetschek and subsequently attacked a Bayerischer Rundfunk reporter. The group started at Wettersteinplatz, then ended at the Stadelheim correctional facility.
