The Green Line in Cyprus

20 July 2024, Cyprus, Nicosia: A UN outpost is seen inside the buffer zone. The Green Line (or buffer zone) is separating the island since 1963, as an initial measure to prevent hostilities between Greek-Cypriots and Turkish-Cypriots, but since the Turkish invasion in 1974, it works as de facto border between the Republic of Cyprus and the self-declared 'Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus' which only Turkey recognizes as a legitimate state.
